by William Greene Since its inception, the U.S. Federal Reserve’s monetary policies have led to a decline of over 95% in the purchasing power of the U.S. dollar. As a result, there have been several attempts to curtail or eliminate the Federal Reserve’s powers (for example, the efforts of Rep. Louis T. McFadden in the 1930s; the efforts of Rep. Wright Patman in the 1970s; the efforts of Rep. Henry Gonzalez in the 1990s; and the efforts of Rep. Ron Paul since the 1990s); however, none have proven successful to date, due mainly to the constraints of strong political opposition at the national level. In contrast to these attempts at the national level, a paper I recently presented at the Mises Institute’s “Austrian Scholars Conference” proposes an alternative approach to ending the Federal Reserve’s monopoly on money: the “Constitutional Tender Act,” a bill template (first introduced by Georgia State Rep. Bobby Franklin) that can be introduced in every State legislature in the nation, returning each of them to adherence to the U.S. Constitution’s “legal tender” provisions of Article I, Section 10.
The Congressman from Colorado District 7 who swore to uphold the Constitution before he took office, violated the rule of law again by supporting the recent health care reform bill (otherwise known as Obamacare). This statement was released from his office on March 21st 2010: Today, U.S. Rep. Ed Perlmutter (CO-07), voted in favor of comprehensive health insurance reform. Below is a statement from Congressman Perlmutter: “I am proud to cast this historic vote. For too long, people with preexisting conditions, like my daughter Alexis, were denied coverage or discriminated against by being priced out of the insurance market. It is unconstitutional, immoral and today we said enough and put an end to this practice. Too much is at stake for thousands of people, families and small businesses in the 7th CD, and we took the necessary first steps to making quality, reasonably priced health care accessible to more people for less cost. There is still work to be done, and I am committed to continuing this work. But ‘No’ is not an option. The status quo is not the answer. At Government in the Grocery and throughout our neighborhoods in my district, I’ve heard from thousands of my constituents [...]

But in case it’s not clear, the graph compares the “Monetary Base” which is the narrowest definition of money supply vs the S&P 500 weekly closes since 1/1/09. The conclusion drawn is that the “recovery”, at least as it is defined by the stock market, is 83% a function of the PRINTING PRESS! [Original Post]

Watch Rep. Alan Grayson question Scott Alverez, of the Federal Reserve Bank, during a transparency hearing for the House Committee on Financial Services. Rep Grayson asks Scott Alverez if the Federal Reserve is manipulating the stock market and the futures market. You can tell Scott Alverez tries to dodge the question and gets really nervous. Without admitting to the question itself, Mr Alverez admits that the Fed is doing something to control interest rates, but he dodges out of the details on how that ties in with the stock market. I really like the fact that Grayson did not back down with his questioning one second. He asked a few other important questions about the gold listed on the Fed’s balance sheet, as well as allegations of front running and insider trading. It is my belief, along with many others, that the Federal Reserve is hiding a lot activity that would make every American outraged. If the Fed is audited, and it is determined that the Federal Reserve was interfering with the stock market, this would be the crime of the millennium. The Federal Reserve is defrauding every American, every investor, and every business. Businesses and investors alike depend on [...]

This is how Colorado’s Reps of the US House of Representatives voted on HR 2454 – The cap and trade legislation. Aye CO-1 DeGette, Diana [D] Aye CO-2 Polis, Jared [D] No CO-3 Salazar, John [D] Aye CO-4 Markey, Betsy [D] No CO-5 Lamborn, Doug [R] No CO-6 Coffman, Mike [R] Aye CO-7 Perlmutter, Ed [D] I know for certain that none of the ‘Aye’ voters even bothered to read the bill. Neither did they do their homework on the ramifications to businesses across the country should the bill pass in the Senate. Obama himself has been quoted as saying “Electricity rates will necessarly skyrocket”. Why would any congressman in their right mind think that massive tax hikes would be a good idea when the country is in a severe recession. There are a few congressman like Ed Perlmutter, for example, that don’t care about Colorado. Perlmutter only cares about control over people. As his voting record shows he thinks that big government is the answer to everything. He is absolutely wrong and so are the other members of congress that keep pushing for bigger government scams. Cap and Trade is one of the biggest scams on the floor of [...]
